The Vampire Stalker by Allison van Diepen

What if the characters in a vampire novel left their world--and came into yours?

Amy is in love with someone who doesn't exist: Alexander Banks, the dashing hero in a popular series of vampire novels. Then one night, Amy meets a boy who bears an eerie resemblance to Alexander. In fact, he IS Alexander, who has escaped from the pages of the book and is in hot pursuit of a wicked vampire named Vigo. Together, Amy and Alexander set out to track Vigo and learn how and why Alexander crossed over. But when she and Alexander begin to fall for each other, Amy wonders if she even wants him to ever return to the realm of fiction.

The premise of this story is some thing that I feel my book blogging friends and I can relate to. I think that is why this book has been on my TBR pile. The idea that I could meet: Ren, Jace, Will, Edward, Patch, or Dimitri is so exciting and such a dream that I would probably a. pass out, b. pee myself, c. giggle like an idiot, d. stare with my mouth wide open or e. all of the above.

That being said, I didn't think that the book lived to what I had had in my mind. It was good, it was. It's a fast read and I needed to know some things, so I refused to put it down. I easily related to Amy, the book junkie with a crush on a character she would never know but secretly wish for an alternate dimension where fictional characters exist, even the scary villains. I think it was clear how Amy lost herself in the books the Outworld series to escape the not so happy life she had - again something a reader can relate to.

Then there was Alexander Banks - Amy's book crush. I didn't "love" him but I saw his appeal. I think my problem with connecting with him is, he was supposed to be a book character, and I never got to meet him as such. I didn't get to know him through pages of his book series, i got to see him in Amy's real life where I felt she already knew his characteristics and I hadn't read them yet.

So Alex comes into our dimensions, he is seeking revenge against the dangerous Vigo. The author does a great job of keeping Alex in the role and Alex's story still going. And then their romance starts blossom and I caught a glimpse of the romance that could be and I held tight. Alex has to make a choice to stay or leave in the end... and I was very surprised by his choice.

One Quick Thought:
It was nice to finish a book and not have sequel going. I mean a cliffhanger is great but some times I want an ending that doesn't take 3 years or more.

  1. Lol. I love your comment about endings that don't take 3 years or more. It is one of the reason, I prefer reading series that are already completed. Fab review. Loved your honesty.

ps. Just noticed we pretty much have the same book boyfriends. Except Will, I still haven't had time to pick up Clockwork Angel even though it now sits on my bookshelf :)
