My friend Karen and I are part of the Chautauqua Reading Council found in Western NY, near the PA border. We are really trying to find some speakers who are willing to talk about books, education, and reading. But Karen and I also work in the same district where reading has really, really, really taken off! We read 8,000 last year. Did I mention we have a super small school with only 350 students k-12. Yeah. We had one student read over 2,500,000 words in 8 months.
So why all this background information? We are looking for authors unestablished and established that are willing to come to our area (or are already in our area) to speak to our school and organization. Money is involved, but we can talk about that through emails if you are interested.
Also, we are looking, well I am and now Karen too, for conferences to take our kids to. What a great way to inspire reading and writing then to see that part of the reading and writing world? They would need to be in the Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Buffalo area.
Any ideas, information, websites, are welcome.
