Waterfall by Lisa T. Bergren

I got this whole series from the wonderful Logan E. Turner. Click her name for her blog, she just did a new blog design as well! Stop by and tell her how it looks!.

Lisa Tawn Bergren's new YA series, River of Time, is romantic, historical fiction in which the plucky heroine doesn't have to fear a vampire's bite but must still fight for her life.

In Waterfall, American teenager Gabi Betarrini accidently finds herself in Fourteenth-Century Italy . . . Knights. Swords. Horses. Armor. And Italian hotties. Most American teens want an Italian vacation, but the Betarrini sisters have spent every summer of their lives there with their archaeologist parents. Stuck on yet another hot, dusty dig, they are bored out of their minds... until they place their hands atop handprints in an ancient tomb and find themselves catapulted into the Fourteenth Century and in the middle of a fierce battle between knights bent on killing one another.

Time travel... hm? I like it. I like more than I am in the 1300's for this series. I am historical romance nut, and this time period is right up my alley. But wait, you mean to tell me, it is a YA, historical romance (minus the steamy scenes)? Oh Thank you Ms. B.

Gabbie finds herself tossed into the middle of a brutal war, savagely hot men, and without her sister, who she knows has also time traveled. Insert the knight in shinning armor, literally. Marcello and Luca come to her aid. I grow to love Marcello but I immediately fell in love with Luca's easy going way and charming banter. He doesn't hit on our dear Gabbie, but tries to make her feel at ease, something that I find to be genuine.

Marcello is clearly smitten with Gabbie but there is that whole he is getting married to the gorgeous Romana - aka the b@tch. And though he tries to remain loyal to his betrothed, well... you know how these stories go.

Lia, Gabbie's sister, becomes a monumental part in the climax of the story, and we learn some trusted people, are not so trusted. Don't worry, it's not Luca. In the end, Gabbie has to leave, and I knew it was coming, because I read the back of book 2, but she fell for Marcello, and I didn't know what could make her leave him. Ms. B. was smart, she left Gabbie and Lia no choice. Hence book 2.

  2. I already love the premise because it's different than the usual time traveling set up. Also that it's not in Tutor England means I'm sold.
