TGIF and Follow

Who's ready for the weekend?!  I know I am!  I'm introducing a new(ish) feature for Fridays to re-cap the week's posts & to propose a question for my followers.  Feel free to get involved by linking up at the bottom. If not, I'd love to read your responses in the comments. Thanks!

This Friday's Question:

Buy or Borrow: Where do your books that you read come from? The bookstore? The library? Do you prefer to own a book, or have it on loan?

I am definitely a buyer and a hoarder of my books. I keep books that I don't even like. I keep books that I have no intention of reading (at least in the future) In my head it is the principal of the matter. Books are precious (makes me sound like Gollum) someone worked very hard on that book and it deserves to be on my shelf.

And my hording has gotten worse since ebooks. I'll get it on ebook and then decide I MUST have it in paper format. So I go out and buy it.

Q: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

Science fiction - the old school kind, like The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury - I get it. I have done my homework on it. But I don't GET it.

Political books with strong underlying messages - I get that too. People have points and believe very strongly in their political views. I have my own set, but I always feel like this type of book gets so bogged down that it is more of a thesis than a fictional story.

What about you? Are you a hoarder? What genre do you avoid? Leave me a post and don't forget to follow :)

  3. Two good choices. I have never been a fan of Ray Bradbury! My kids have read them for school and they don't care for his writing either which is fine by me. Political is a tough one to read too. Found you on the hop and new follower. Going to check out your site now.....

  4. I think most of us have things we "hoard" -- and of all the things you could collect, books aren't the worst! My other hobby is sewing/machine embroidery. Don't get me started on fabric, thread, and other supplies I 'Must have!!"

  6. Yes, a fellow book hoarder! Not that it's something to be extremely happy about (my wallet cries a lot over this), but at least someone else understands the itch, the desire, the need to buy the book and have it for myself ;)

  9. We may have to arm wrestle for the title if Gollum. I was just starring at my bookcases while I was on the treadmill. I should find a new home for some of my books, but it made me sad to think it too long.

  13. hi,newbie here...I absolutely love 'The Martian Chronicles' and nearly spat my coffee over the keyboard reading this post!..but if you came at me with anything from the fantasy genre I'd have the crucifix out faster than Van Helsing...no cave bears, dragons, rings or hobbits will ever find their way onto my bookshelf/e- reader..
I love anything to do with travel, and also crime, so series of foreign crime stories are my bag..Wallander, Inspector Montalbano and my favourite Policeman, Inspector Cetin Ikmen who solves crimes in Istanbul in a series of novels by Barbara Nadel..
